These are some of the types of IELTS essays you can get in the test: Not every essay will fit one of these patterns, but many do. For example, you could be asked to give your opinion on an issue, and then discuss the advantages or disadvantages of it.
The golden rule is to ALWAYS read the question very carefully to see exactly what you are being asked to do.

Research essays are extremely common assignments in high school, college, and graduate school, and are not unheard of in middle school.
If you are a student, chances are you will sooner or later be faced with the task of researching a topic and writing a paper about it.
This should be 1-2 sentences before you transition into your thesis statement.
Transition into and end with your structure statement, which will set up the framework for the topics of your body paragraphs.
