Chinese people have the tradition of going abroad to hunt for more advanced knowledge and skills, like at the end of Qing dynasty, Chinese government sent hundreds of little kids to the US to learn science and engineering, who later went back to China and became most important persons in many fieldseducation, industry and military.Though unable to save the Qing dynasty at last, they significantly changed China in many ways. So, when looking for something in those publications, sometimes the old-school approach—a page-by-page search—yields better results. For example, while they do have issues of Daniel Baker’s , they don’t have any of the issues from Tevis Clyde Smith’s reign as editor, hence none of Bob Howard’s poems.
Hundreds of years have passed since that time, Chinese people are still going abroad to study, are we still expecting the same thing as our forerunners? We are still looking for the technology and skills, we want to acquire the latest and most advanced skills to help us to get good jobs and earn decent lives. After the time capsule is filled with items then it is buried so people in the future can dig it up and learn about the past and the people through these items. The first thing I would put in my time capsule is a set of my favorite series. This series is called the Harry Potter series which includes seven books. You can think of it as the cross, except for Judaism. The Star of David is made up of two triangles together, except one is upside down. These are the reasons why I would put my Star of David in my time capsule. I also wanted to go through their yearbooks and catalogues, anything and everything from the 1920s.These examples are from the Cambridge English Corpus and from sources on the web.Any opinions in the examples do not represent the opinion of the Cambridge Dictionary editors or of Cambridge University Press or its licensors. There are also period photos from all over the state, city directories, legislative documents, various books and journals, a whole slew of information. There are a few drawbacks: the available images aren’t always of the best quality and the search function doesn’t always turn up the results, especially from the school newspapers.
