All I really had to go from was what I’d seen in the movies, and there wasn’t much there either; I’d only catch little bits of the movies when my sister would watch the Harry Potter Weekends on ABC Family, and my friend invited me to see with her on birthday when we were in Kindergarten.
All I can remember from either of those occasions was the Christmas scene from the first film, the death of Cedric Diggory (or as my sister called him to annoy me as the character was dead, Edward), a woman I now realize is Umbridge, and Sirius Black’s wanted poster.
Right there, 4 shelves up, just above my eye level, was the first, second, and fifth volumes in the series (It’s a school library; you can’t expect them to have all 7, can you?
) I literally stood there, staring at the books for a good 5 minutes before I finally reached up, and pulled the book off the shelf by the smooth, worn, easily bent spine. I had actually told my sister, who was a huge (to use the fan-given name) Potterhead for a while, that I was never going to read the ‘stupid Harry Potter books.’ I have to admit, though, I was actually curious as to what happened in the books.
