Anthem is a depiction of the Ayn Rand's view on collectivism, and introduces us to the ideals of objectivism.

The protagonist of the novel, Prometheus is born into a society which worships the word "we," and in which the individual is crushed and his identity erased by the great power of collectivism.

Prometheus seeks the freedom to learn about the world and science when he is receiving his primary education.

He wants to be enlightened in a society where everything is shadowed by laws and limits.

Prometheus values freedom because people have been deprived of it for years and he understands the power of freedom.

"Dare not choose in your minds the work you would like to do..." (22).Equality cannot hold his strong thoughts of the Golden One appear in his mind.Equality's differences make him a strong individual who is ready for any challenge.Throughout the novel Anthem, Prometheus shows his growing need to be free from the mental bonds of his society.He wants this freedom, and values it because it is something that humans had been deprived of for years. After communism came to power in 1917, her father's small business was confiscated, and the family endured years of suffering and danger.She escaped from Russia and, two weeks after her twenty-first birthday, arrived in the United States.In Ayn Rand's novel Anthem, the main character Equality 7-2521 battles internal and external conflicts in order to discover his individuality.Equality 7-2521 struggles with many internal conflicts that help him discover his true self.The summer of that year found her living temporarily in Stony Creek, Connecticut.Her husband, Frank O'Connor, was working as an actor in summer stock, and she was planning her next novel.
